JT Turner
Data ScientistWith a background in astrophysics, JT Turner has extensive experience managing large-scale datasets and complex data challenges. JT has worked with massive datasets and computations on supercomputers to model the early universe. JT simulated the universe's evolution following the Big Bang, particularly focusing on the inflationary phase and its aftermath, and the role played by oscillons in some models. This was done by simulating complex scalar field dynamics after inflation.
JT has also conducted planetary research at the Lowell Observatory. Their work focused on the spin orbit angle of TOI-1259Ab, a hot Jupiter orbiting a K-dwarf star with a white dwarf binary companion using TESS data and Python to measure the planet's obliquity by calculating how spot crossings in transit light curves changed over time.
JT has conducted research that enables astronomers using the Green Bank Telescope to optimize their data gathering by detecting, predicting, and therefore minimizing interference to radio astronomical observations from RFI emissions. They have also analyzed radio signals to find galaxies.
In their coursework, JT simulated quantum computing using Python. Their work can be found here: Python Simulations of a Quantum Computer.
JT earned their Bachelor of Science in Astrophysics with a minor in Classical and Cultural Studies from Haverford College. JT is currently attending a Columbia University Data Analytics Boot Camp.
With a strong foundation in computer science and mathematics, Marco Torresarpi brings an understanding of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and software development to Dark Sky Data. While at Intercam Banco, a financial institution in Mexico, Marco worked on developing a neural network to predict stock prices, integrating advanced AI features into their mobile app. His programming expertise spans multiple languages, including Python, C++, Java, JavaScript, and OCaml.
At University, Marco dove into advanced AI and machine learning courses, including computer vision, where he explored how computers interpret images in 3D space and applied innovative techniques to calculate spatial relationships. His passion for programming extends to game design, leading a team developing the puzzle game Hellfrost, which features algorithmic logic to determine player movements. The game is set for release by the end of November.
Marco earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science from Cornell University. Marco is currently attending a Columbia University Data Analytics Boot Camp

Case Study: Streamlining Customer Data for Enhanced Analysis
June 13, 2024Colonnade Advisors, an M&A investment bank, faced a significant data challenge when a client provided customer data in an Excel file and CSV format. The data was disorganized, with customer information spread across multiple rows—sometimes as many as ten per customer. With hundreds of thousands of rows, the fragmented data made it nearly impossible to efficiently manipulate or analyze the dataset....
